Sometimes, and this is something that developers have understood very well, too much innovation or a complete revolution is not necessary when what you are looking for is to perfect something that from the beginning already pointed ways following the right path. While they cannot be said to be radical changes from what was seen in Origins, that does not seem to be their goal either: Legends adds small droplets of genius to a tried and tested formula, spreads it with a superb level design and produces a mix that It works with the precision of a Swiss watch. The other great novelty is that on this occasion Murfy does not have an anecdotal role as narrator of the score and is directly involved in the development of the game, as an assistant to carry out various actions (see the attached box). Take a look at the videos with the covers of Black Betty, Ram Jam, Woo Hoo, from 5.6.7.8’s or Eye of the Tiger, the mythical Survivor song made popular by Rocky III, and tell me if they are not impressive. The palpable demonstration of the mastery achieved by Ancel’s team can be found without too many problems in the musical levels, where the action is synchronized in a perfect and transparent way with the songs that play in the background. Legends is demanding, with mechanics that demand precision and attention on the part of the player, but always fair and also quite magnanimous: it does not require too much effort to unlock the first worlds and it is intuitive and friendly enough to invite anyone to take the command – skillful or not – and join the game in cooperative mode. The overriding fundamentals may still be the same as those laid out by Shigeru Miyamoto in Super Mario Bros., but Rayman’s jumps and platforms have a very personal rhythm and cadence. The very elaborate cartoon aesthetic is not only one of the hallmarks of this new Rayman, but also an essential component for his particular and crazy humor with slapstick roots to work. Legends feels like an old acquaintance, but has no qualms about introducing new ingredients and continually shaking the shaker to surprise the player and deliver something different every few minutes.
Now, based on the technical and playable foundations of Origins, Ubisoft Montepellier claims a deserved place within the Olympus of the genre with a new Rayman that refines the formula in an exercise in perfectionism that reminds – in a way – of that tour de force that Nintendo EAD Tokyo was branded with Super Mario Galaxy 2. :: Pokémon Sun and Moon guide – tips, tricks and everything you need to overcome the adventure

And a couple of years ago he returned to his roots with a Rayman Origins that in full polygonal maelstrom dared to recover that elaborate cartoon aesthetics that even Disney seems to consider as something of the past. In 1999 he starred in a leap to three dimensions as precise as the one Mario had previously made in his premiere for Nintendo 64. In 1995 he was born with a game that was not only beautiful, but also had an overflowing and carefree personality. In the latter case it is perhaps unfair that Rayman is always relegated to a secondary role compared to Nintendo and Sega mascots, because the charismatic character devised by Michel Ancel has starred in some of the best examples of the genre throughout the last eighteen years. And if we talk about platforms, Mario and Sonic will surely be the first thing that will come to mind. If you argue with someone about first person shooters in all likelihood, sooner or later Doom and Call of Duty will appear in the conversation. If you think of adventure games, it is nothing short of impossible not to remember The Secret of Monkey Island or Day of the Tentacle at some point. The rest of the game is still exactly the same as the one we were able to enjoy at the end of August 2013, so the original analysis, which you can read below, is still fully valid. We have exhaustively tested the version for PlayStation 4 of the platform developed by the team led by Michel Ancel and the changes are minimal: the textures of the 3D models have no compression (which for practical purposes is not noticeable, really), the times of Loadouts are a little shorter, there’s full PS Vita Remote Play compatibility and some extra characters and a couple of features are added for the DualShock 4’s touchpad – scratch off lucky tickets and zoom the camera when taking screenshots. This Thursday Ubisoft will put on sale in our country the version for new generation consoles of Rayman Legends, one of the best and most fun games of last year.
